Design Technology provides consulting services on automation, special machinery development and product development. These services include: make-or-buy analysis, automation feasibility, product design for manufacturability, brainstorming sessions, designing around patents, design reviews for both machinery and product design, debugging existing machinery, project management, design management, sourcing of design and build vendors, and expert witness services. This consulting practice is limited to key projects where 30 years of diverse experience can add high value. The consulting activity arose after the acquisition of the Design and Build company.
1969-2001 President, Design Technology Corporation (Machinery design and build activity)
Founded this special machinery and product design company. Design Technology solved difficult automation problems for corporations, ranging from Fortune 500 to start-ups, in a wide variety of industries. These problems typically involved new products, high volume, tight time tables, and difficult to handle materials or parts. Design Technology was profitable for all of its 32 years and had annual revenue of up to 10 million dollars, and employed up to 60 people, most of whom were professionals.
Among Design Technology’s clients were Ford, Englehard, Stanley Tools, Sarah Lee, Delphi, Pfizer, ConAgra, Proctor and Gamble, Johnson and Johnson, BIC, Bausch and Lomb, C & K Electronics and many small and medium sized firms. Typical processes included assembly, test, inspection, packaging, web-handling, and winding, often in parallel with new product design. Machinery was developed for products such as disposable contact lenses, surgical sutures, novel batteries, automotive air bags, catalytic converters, hip and knee joints, connectors, tools, medical devices, medical disposables, food products, cosmetics, electronics and even garments.
Held a series of positions in automation and special machinery design ranging from Project Engineer for Dupont Company, Wilmington, DE and the Raytheon Company, Newton, MA (semi-conductor manufacturing equipment) to Vice President, Special Machinery Division of a 200 person engineering firm.
Lt. (JG) U.S. Navy. Served as Supply Officer on the USS Yellowstone.
Patents
Mr. Menzin holds 18 patents in diverse industries, generally assigned to his clients. Patents range from the world’s first continuous injection molding machine for Velcro to novel popcorn cake machines for ConAgra, to new connectors for microcircuits for Molex.
